Recently, Facebook came up with the new video calling devices by the name Portal and Portal plus. These are the devices which let you connect with your friends and family in the same room on a widescreen, even if you are miles apart. Well, all thanks to the Artificial Intelligence which has made this possible.
Since the shipping of these devices has also started, Facebook has been trying to calm down the privacy issues. For that, it has issued an update about how Facebook will use the collected data on the device and what sort of ads the users may encounter. This information is purely for the consumers for their ease of understanding.
Though it says that it does not record any data from Portal but it is indeed collecting the data to target ads. Let us see how:
Well, clearly this would need account login information, account activities, the frequency of video calls, a note of calls duration, the other features being used, average volume level, bytes received and sent, resolutions of the frame, etc.
Although Facebook confirms for not tracking any audio or video content on the Portal for targeting ads, it is gathering data for ad targeting with this Portal device. The small piece of account login detail can result in a powerful platform for ad targeting. However, Facebook's current policy is not to run ads on this new device but the chances are very high of getting a change, resulting in a newer platform to run Facebook campaigns and raise the bar of social media marketing services.
